Block a complaint and pause a high bounce rate
A permanent bounce or a complaint blocks that address. A broadcast or a newsletter issue skips it and keeps sending to everyone else.
Open Blocked in the dashboard to see the list: bounces, complaints, addresses you blocked by hand, and unsubscribes.
What gets blocked
- A complaint blocks that address.
- A permanent bounce blocks that address.
- A temporary bounce is recorded on that email. The address can still receive later mail.
- You can block an address yourself from the same page.
A list keeps going
A broadcast walks the audience one address at a time. A blocked or unsubscribed address is skipped, and the next address is still sent. A newsletter issue does the same for confirmed readers. One bad address does not fail the rest of the list, and a temporary bounce does not take someone off it.
A single API send is stricter. If any recipient on that call is blocked or unsubscribed, the call is rejected and nothing in it is sent.
When the account pauses
A bounce rate above 4% across the last 15 days, once 20 emails have been sent, pauses sending. A rate of exactly 4% does not. Admins get one email when the account crosses that line, and another only after the rate recovers and crosses it again.
While sending is paused, new newsletter readers are not confirmed and a scheduled issue does not go out. Sending starts again once the rate for those 15 days is no longer above 4%.
